Friday, November 14th in Ordinary Time

Even so, they are not to be excused: if they are capable of acquiring enough knowledge to be able to investigate the world, how have they been so slow to find its Master?

Searching for truth?

Are you search for the right Christmas present?

Naturally stupid are all men who have not known God and who, from the good things that are seen, have not been able to discover Him-who-is, or, by studying the works, have failed to recognize the Artificer. It seems that humans, young and old are searching. It could be a new diet or the perfect Christmas Gift. We search and don’t open our eyes to the wonder of our Savior Jesus Christ. We search in all the wrong places and don’t listen to Him. “AI” technology won’t find Him but prayer will.

My wife, Anna, and I live in a senior apartment complex. We are not in a nursing home, but we take care of each other. We know our neighbors and cook for them or give extra produce from our gardens. We walk their dogs or feed their cats. I have one neighbor who bakes artesian bread and shares. Seniors are very much technology oriented. We have to keep pace with a world that changes very fast. Anymore, I only see pay phones at airports, so we adapt to cell phones which have taken over a home phone. Adapt is what humans are good at, because that is how we survived over the millennia. Cell phones are more efficient and faster. Still, we are tied to them and spend so much time on them that we miss the human contact that is right before us. We have camaras that tell us who is at our front door, and camaras which show birds feeding.

Our parents and generations of the past knew their Creator of Artificer. They didn’t have the technology, but they still search as we do today, yet they too searched for their Creator. All generations make the same mistakes of thinking that we are gods. Their search leads to avarice, drugs or alcohol and a host of other sins. Prayer and a relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ, is the only way to find the Truth.

Like any relationship it must be constantly fed. A friendship has to be fueled by contact, or it becomes a memory. You must have a relationship with Jesus, or you wouldn’t be reading this now. I encourage you keep and increase that relationship by increase in the use of the sacraments and daily prayer.  ‘When that day comes, anyone on the housetop, with his possessions in the house, must not come down to collect them, nor must anyone in the fields turn back either. Remember Lot’s wife. Anyone who tries to preserve his life will lose it; and anyone who loses it will keep it safe. We know not the hour but if you are prepared, it is a moot point.

God Love You Always

  1. Thank you for your reflection Bob. We all need to constantly build our relationship with God and not our devices.

  2. A good dose of Burford logic on Friday always gives me a boost. Thank you Bob for your words of Catholic wisdom and may peace be with you.

  3. Thank you Bob.As we approach the end of the church year your reflection is a good reminder to make sure that our houses are in order and that our souls are clean.I feel a sense of awe and a little trepidation at the thought of meeting our Lord Jesus Christ and wonder if I’m as ready as I think I am.Food for thought.

  4. Thank you for the reflection Bob. It’s a beautiful fall day here in the Midwest. I’m hoping to take a hike and enjoy some nature later. I believe that we can find so much beauty in nature (i.e. this weeks nighttime spectacular Northern Lights), in music (a moving adagio) and even in the written word (a beautiful poem). I am also a firm believer that this “created or inspired” beauty should open our eyes to all the wonderful gifts that come from our Creator and that we must not be superficial by worshipping the created and not the Creator.
