It was the stone rejected by the builders that became the keystone. This was the Lord’s doing and it is wonderful to see?

Rejection is not easy to take!

When I was a teenager, I took to heart when a girl wouldn’t go out with me on a date. It never occurred to me that the girl had insecurity problems or in reality she didn’t like me. It is rough being young. The good news is that all of us grow out of it. We mature. Our taste changes. We have different interests.

The dark side of change is that the dark side of the human experience is affected by our darker tendencies. Jealousy, greed, the desire to control and abuse power are all alluded to in our readings for the day.

We can also be rejected when we try to bring others closer to Jesus. Preparation is the key to prevent rejection. Preparation means we have to make sure our own house is clean and we don’t cause someone to reject our shortcomings from our own sinful nature. We all need to examine our consciences before we speak to anyone about God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Our faith tells us we need to reach out to others to follow the mandate of Matthew 28:16-20 to Baptize the world. The important message for today is that Jesus was rejected but became the cornerstone in building our faith. We can never do it alone but before we act, we need to make sure that nothing in our lives would be an excuse to have our message rejected because of our own inadequacies or shortcomings.

News reports speak of the record number of catechumens becoming Catholic throughout the world, as well as our own churches. I am excited and humbled by the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives and my own.
