Friday, June 29th, The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner than over ninety-nine virtuous men who have no need of repentance.’

The job of a Sheppard is never ending. Today I might be part of the 99 and tomorrow I might be that lost sheep. Just like we would clean and maintain a car we have to clean and maintain our souls. Just like the Good Sheppard we have to be constantly vigilant.

One of the men I work with at the Deli was recently fired. He was a manager and had multiple shortcomings. One of the minor offenses was that he took excessive breaks and extended lunch time. He lost his job by not doing the work he was supposed to do. Was it merciful to fire him. I say yes, because he will have learned a lesson and hopefully improve his work habits on his next job. The love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us. We were still helpless when at his appointed moment Christ died for sinful men. If the above man had repented, he might have saved his job. The example is that Jesus is merciful, but we have to be repentant.

One of my favorite passages is Psalm 27:13-14 I believe I shall see the LORD’s goodness in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD, take courage; be stouthearted, wait for the LORD! Humans are so very impatient. I myself am just as guilty. Nonetheless, the Lord is steady and sure. He is patient and kind and always willing to forgive us, because of His Sacred Heart.

When we are lost due to sickness or relationship problems it is hard to see the mercy of Jesus who is looking to help us. When we have a relationship with Him through prayer and Eucharist, we know He is there. This is all part of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Wait for the Lord!

God Love You Always

  1. Thank you Bob. We can all become lost in this world of confusion. Thank the Good Shepherd for being able to recognize us an pull us back into the flock. Peace of Christ be with you always.

  2. Thank you Bob! It’s a good reminder that sometimes we’re the obedient sheep and sometimes we’re the lost one, and in those times, we’ll always be welcomed back by God

  3. I’ve been that lost sheep many times and likely will be again before my time is through. Yet, Jesus comes finding us time after time. What’s amazing is He always will, offering mercy if we’ll only repent. I share your love of Psalm 27: 13-14.
