I love happy endings Bob. Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favourite scripture quotes. I first saw it quoted on a religious mug from which I drank my morning coffee. When my life was turned upside down, I would look at those words and ask God "WHAT ARE your plans for me?" I also framed a beautiful calendar picture with Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. I hung the framed picture at the entrance hall of my apartment so that (I) and anyone who entered could not miss it. It hung there for many many years. I eventually put the mug and picture away - it seems, so far, there is no happy ending for me. I continue to read about the saints who suffered, my favourite being St. Theresa of Avila who was reputed to have a sense of humour. I read this story about her somewhere :

(...) while Teresa’s spirituality was a deeply reverential one, her humor also evinces a kind of playfulness in her relationship with God. Once, when she was travelling to one of her convents, St. Teresa of Ávila was knocked off her donkey and fell into the mud, injuring her leg. “Lord,” she said, “you couldn’t have picked a worse time for this to happen. Why would you let this happen?”

And the response in prayer that she heard was, “That is how I treat my friends.”

Teresa answered, “And that is why you have so few of them!”

Oh that I could have that much confidence to speak that way to Jesus!

Have a great weekend. God bless.

Thank you for the reflection. At certain point in our lives, we feel all hope is lost and so much abounded. But we always forget the God we serve. He is always with us. Even when we fall or when we are struck down, we are not destroyed. It's never too late to get up and start again.
