‘Have you not read what David did when he and his followers were hungry – how he went into the house of God and how they ate the loaves of offering which neither he nor his followers were allowed to eat, but which were for the priests alone?

Mercy!

Jesus tells us what it takes to be a Christian. What I want is mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the blameless. For the Son of Man is master of the sabbath.’ Now I am not speaking as someone who considers himself a perfect Christian. I am guilty as anyone else. I am not perfect. My wife, Anna, will agree. How do we show our Christianity? How do we treat others.

I am writing this essay to speak out against an attitude that is currently in our generation of thought in the Christian community. Some Christians and Catholics included, say that only Christians go to heaven and that all other religions are bad. In reality we are all made by God. What makes us Christian is how we treat others. We must pray for peace. How do we show mercy to others.

Immigrants . It is amazing how certain politicians and Evangelical Christians (supposed Christians)rag on immigrants. These politicians and Christians in name only (CINO)criticise the Pope and Catholic Bishops for following scripture. They criticize sanctuary cities for following the mandates of scripture. These people may sell Bibles but never read or understand scripture. Yes, it is true that some immigrants have done bad things, but statistically natural citizens have committed a greater percentage of crimes than these human beings that are only looking for the same things we all look at in life. Food, Shelter and a decent job to take care of ourselves and families. Immigrants do the work that our citizens are unwilling to do.

More importantly, we have a duty to care for immigrants and mostly to treat them with respect as human beings. We do need secure borders but we also need to treat them as human beings. Now I am not saying or implying that we should have open borders. We need an orderly access, based on the fact that these people are human beings.

We do not respect the work these human beings perform for our food chain. Farmers could not get their crops to market without them. Food will rot in the fields. Housing and the building trades need their labor in a world that suffers from a lack of housing.

If you do not agree with me that is fine. Please take a pen and cross out the below scripture references. You haven’t read, believe or follow any of the inspired words of God so cross them out. Before you know it you have an entire Bible full of black lines. This is why the Pope Leo and Catholic Bishops have taken the stance they have on immigrants. In addition, please note that scripture doesn’t differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants. We need a comprehensive immigration policy that protects us from criminals but give a path to hard working humans that we need to harvest crops, build homes, and do things that our soft and privileged youth are not willing to do. We need to stop terrorizing a population who is pulled off the street just to satisfy someone’s desire to make our country white. Instead of terrorizing hard working people who are not criminals and work to supply our food and housing.

What we need today is to show mercy and act like Christians instead of a CINO. To be a Christian we need mercy. Please take the following scripture from your Bibles or follow them.

Exodus 22:20 ; Deut 10:19; Leviticus  19: 33-34; Hebrews 13:2

God Love You Always

  1. Thank you Bob! There is such a cruelty and lack of humanity exhibited by so many these days, under the guise of Christianity. I appreciate your words and agree with you

  2. The US was founded by immigrants. However, we do need for immigrants to come to our country legally. There is a process to be followed that allows for us to ensure those with criminal records don’t enter. Those here with work visas legally should be left alone.

  3. The verse from Hebrews (13:2) improves on the old testament quotes. We are commanded to show love, acceptance and hospitality to all (immigrants and non-immigrants alike). In God’s eyes we are equals. Incidental are country of origin, race, color, gender, age, physical or mental condition, economic status, and personal aspirations. God expects each of us to love everyone as He does without distinction.

  4. Well said, Bob! These are biblical times with the disgusting, cruel treatment of other human beings, who are made in the image and likeness of God; by people who will tout they are doing God’s work. Is this history repeating itself? St. Michael’s prayer ends with “ cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits roaming throughout the earth, seeking the ruin of souls, Amen”. Let us pray for all those who feel this is the only way to protect our country from outsiders and for the leaders who instruct those followers.

  5. Thank you for your reflection today. Your common sense and compassion for the immigrants touched my heart deeply. We must continue to pray for all the immigrants and the leaders of our nation.
Compassion, compassion, compassion is lost with so many people of this nation.😢

  6. Let’s all do our part and remember the good samaritan did not expect the inn keeper to foot the bill.

  7. Powerful words today Bob.I don’t live in the USA but have seen the news coverage of the ICE raids. It’s distressing and disturbing to see.
Each one of us is our Brother’s Keeper.

  8. Happy Friday! Well articulated! Your thoughts clarified or reemphasized what we should having been doing all along but have lost amongst all the commotions of life.

Thanks for bring that back into focus for me and those neighbors we meet on the road.

  10. Thank you for the reflection Bob. You shared some very valid points. I have a problem with the “illegal” part of migration as open borders are just a recipe for disaster. What I often wonder is how often do we thank God that we were blessed to be born in a country where freedom and opportunity are abundant and that others might desire that. Even to the point of risking life to get here. I think we’re all familiar with Emma Lazarus’ sonnet which says,
“Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, / The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. / Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, / I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
    Peace

  11. Bob – You make arguments that are false, such as “immigrants doing the work that our citizens are unwilling to do.” – the issue is with businesses wanting illegal immigrants, who are willing to accept less than what citizens SHOULD receive for the same work. The Bible also talks about the need for people to respect laws and those in authority. Unfortunately, you are back to being political again, and I suggest leaving politics out of your reflections.
