He also told them this parable, ‘No one tears a piece from a new cloak to put it on an old cloak; if he does, not only will he have torn the new one, but the piece taken from the new will not match the old.
God! You are God and I am not!
Sirach 3:17-18 My son, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts. Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find mercy in the sight of God. The above quote is from Sunday’s Mass readings. This seems to tie into the readings for today. Notice that the parable of the cloak and wine skins is the idea of man trying to fix things himself. My buddy, Skip, in Florida says when you find yourself in a hole… Stop digging. Yet we as humans keep on digging.
Christ Jesus is the image of the unseen God and the first-born of all creation, for in him were created all things in heaven and on earth: everything visible and everything invisible, Thrones, Dominations, Sovereignties, Powers. All things were created through him and for him
We were made for Heaven. We are made in the image of God. We sometimes act like a god, but we are not. I recently took a pair of trousers to a Tailor. They were a gift, but I haven’t worn them because the label says the length was 30 inches but in reality, they were 31.5 inches. I was stumbling and tangling my shoe on the hem, so finally. I took the trousers to a tailor and for less than $20 I have a new pair of trousers. Notice, I could have tried to do the repair myself, but I took it to an expert.
We might be made in God’s image, but He is the expert, and we are not. The more we recognize that God and His Son, Jesus have the answers, and we do not. We can try to fix things, but the expert knows how we were made, and He knows what it takes for us to sin less, love more and fix our lives and be happy. We were made through Him and for Him.
Think of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They walked with the Lord in the Garden. We are made for that in the State of Grace.
Be humble enough to recognize that we don’t have the answers. Take the problem to the expert. Take it to the creator. Seek reconciliation and lay the problem in the Lord’s hands. He made us.
