You might have missed a golden opportunity at the meeting to share the true Catholic meaning of the faith/works issue that Protestants are inclined to distort (as your guest speaker seems to have done). That would have been something that the Catholics present at the meeting (indeed all Catholics) would appreciate. I believe God is calling all of us in a situation like that to speak up for the truth, difficult as that might be. Saying nothing might be taken as your tacit approval.
