Most of us have heard the phrase, “What’s in it for me?” This is the common thread that runs through both of the readings for Mass today. The prince of Tyre in today’s first reading for Mass looked at the world with the mindset of, “what’s in it for me?”

The gospel today is about a rich young man who followed God’s commandments all his life, but he still had a question for Jesus. He asked him, “Teacher what good must I do to gain eternal life?”
The Canaanite Woman’s Great Faith
The Canaanite woman in today’s gospel was awesome. She was no meek, mild, or humble person, yet Jesus said she had “great faith”. It was because of her great faith that he healed her daughter, even though he didn’t really want to do so. This woman just wouldn’t give up.
