‘My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God my saviour; because he has looked upon his lowly handmaid. Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed, for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name, and his mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him.
Holy is His Name!
Part of my prayer life is to say a Rosary every morning after I awake. The first Joyful Mystery is the Annunciation which is where Mary accepts the will of God in her life. We too like Mary have to accept God’s will. She risked death by stoning for an unmarried women in her generation. Mary was brave.
In the second Luminous Mystery she tells the wine stewards to “do whatever He tells you” and the result was water changed to wine in the miracle at Cana. Mary didn’t know what Jesus would do. Nonetheless, she had faith in the outcome. She trusted Jesus.
These two mysteries speak volumes to us. His mercy reaches from age to age for those that fear him. Just like us she did not know how the problem would be solved. In perspective it was a small problem that saved the newly married couple from embarrassment. Not major and that is my point. Mary wants us to go forward and follow Jesus in small things and large, because His mercy reaches from age to age and to us. Jesus wants to be a part of all our lives in big and little problems.
I am not the bravest person, but I know that to follow Jesus we have to take risks. We must step out in faith to do the right thing. We need to standup for immigrants and the homeless. In the 100 temperatures of August, my church has set up watering stations for the homeless in our community. The water does not turn to wine but gives temporary relief to another human being.
The song, ” Holy is His Name” written by John Michael Talbot was one of the song at the wedding of my lovely bride, Anna, and myself. It is the scriptural rendition of Mary’s prayer in the Magnificat.
Because of Our Mother Mary’s bravery and faith we can stand together today and celebrate her Assumption into Heaven. Mary isn’t done. She is still there to give us a powerful example of her life.
We do not worship Mary!
Still her influence is still felt on our behalf. Her example is still there for us to follow.
God Love You Always
