Feed my lambs, feed my sheep
My wife, Anna, and I went to see a movie on Mother’s Day in the United States. It was a cute tongue-in-cheek mystery movie called “The Sheep Detective”. It was based on a German novel and was very entertaining and, yes, some of the stars were animated sheep.
Jesus says to feed my lambs and feed my sheep. The analogy is to Peter and the rest of the apostles is that he will preach and instruct the souls in his care.
Every morning my cat, Seamus, wants two things. One thing is a little loving. The other is to be fed and watered. No, I cannot sleep-in. No, there is no snooze alarm. There are no holidays. Feed me!
To be fed properly the souls of God need scripture and instruction. Anna and I will be starting a summer teaching on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We are never too old to learn and when you stop learning you die.
We all make mistakes about our Faith. One common mistake is that we say that we don’t worship Mary, the “Mother of God”, but some Catholics do. Now we know if we want help, we don’t go to dad, we go to mom. It is the same with Mary. She has no power, but she has influence with her Son, Jesus. Please note, this is how it should be.
Nonetheless, we have a duty to eat what we are fed. Our daily scripture, being attentive at sermons, proclaiming the Gospel to friends, relatives and the world. Even non-Catholic media offer an opportunity to be fed. We are fed every day and we need to feed others. We can only do this if we continue to learn.
Our course of study on the Catechism will begin July 7th. There are many opportunities in your Faith Community and ours to expand our feeding regimen. There are even offerings online.
So, our message today somebody else will put a belt round you and take you where you would rather not go.’ We have a choice. We can be fed or not.
Anna and I thank you for your prayers.
God Love You Always
