Today’s reasings are reminders to place our faith and trust in God.

In the first reading, Daniel and his companions (Hananiah, Michael and Azariah) trusted in the God of Israel, as they refused to eat the meals provided to them from the kings table. Rather they opted to eat vegetables instead of feasting like “kings” from the king’s table.
We were told that God rewarded the four men for their fidelity by gifting them with the gift of knowledge andbproficiency in all literature andscience, and Daniel was given the gift of understanding of all visions and dreams.
Though these five men were fed with only vegetables, they looked healthier than those other servants who were fed from the king’s table.

In the Gospel is the story of a poor widow who made a sacrificial giving and was acknowledged by Jesus for her generosity. The poor widow’s two small coins given to the temple treasury, was an example of giving out of poverty and not out of abundance.

Jesus stated that she gave more than anyone else because she gave from her poverty, not her surplus.

Today in all the readings we heard on the importance of sincere, sacrificial giving and heart-felt devotion to God.

How is your giving spirit? Good or bad?

There is always a room for improvement

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving

Timely readings that we who can, be more generous especially this time of year as we give thanks to God for all he has done for us.

  2. Thank you Father. As adults we are advised to save for retirement and financial stability. How much is enough?I pray for a more generous heart when I donate to charitable causes and to realise that all that I have in abundance, is a gift to be shared with my brothers and sisters.
