MONDAY OF THE 19TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME, YEAR C, AUGUST 11, 2025, Memorial of Saint Clare

Today is the memorial of Saint Clare. She was known for her life of poverty, simplicity, and devotion to God.

The life of Saint Clara is a testimony of what we are all called to, a deeper relationship with God. God cares deeply for each person and desires a personal relationship with each of us.

In the first reading we find Moses asking the people of Israel of the Lord what asked of them. This same question is directed to us today, as new Israel and it is still relevant as it was centuries ago: “What does the LORD, your God, ask of you? According to Moses there are five things the Lord asked of us.
– To fear the LORD our God,
– To follow his ways exactly,
– To love the Lord
– To serve the LORD, with all our heart and all our soul,
– To keep His commandments and statutes

This question and the answers supplied by the Lord call to mind one of the questions in the Baltimore Catechism: Why did God make you?

The answer is: “God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in heaven.”

God created us to share love, experience a relationship with Him, and reflect His glory. This includes knowing, loving, and serving God in this life and ultimately being happy with Him forever.

The purpose of our existence is to glorify God and experience His goodness.

So, our life will be restless or suffer weariness until it rests in the Lord as Saint Augustine echoed. “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”

The life of Saint Clare is a stack reminder of total surrender to the will of God. It is a proof that God rewards those who trust Him, loves Him, and glorify Him.

May we never forget to glorify the Lord with our lives.

Do you live a purpose driven life?

Have a wonderful week
