Thank you for mentioning my typo. I corrected it. Sure appreciate it. And I agree, as a foster parent, that adoption is also a full family model!

Thank you, Laura, for your reflection, and thank you Chris, as well, for sharing your insightful perspective. All writers' reflections are provocative and appreciated in themselves, but the comments shared add additional value and are worth consideration.

Laura, you say that He "tells Peter to," but you mean Philip. Just a typo.

Thank you for pointing out adoption as a viable, full of love family model, Mary Jane! Absolutely!

So true! Jesus understands our weaknesses, and times when we lack faith. In the Gospel of John 6:7 (the multiplication of fish and loaves), Jesus tests Phillip when he asked where they could buy food for the crowds to eat. Phillip's response showed a lack of faith in who Jesus was. And in today's Gospel, once again Phillip shows he still doesn't grasp who Jesus is. Jesus says "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me Phillip?" These words could be applied to us today! However, I could argue that the Apostles were in Jesus' presence, listened to his teachings, parables, and saw miracles, and still didn't fully grasp the magnitude of what they were experiencing, so how is it possible for us in the 21st century bombarded by all that's happening around us to have faith. Then, I realize, Jesus has been with us for more than two thousand years, and we hear his teachings and parables in the Scriptures every day. Miracles abound, but we are so caught up in the bad news of the day that we give in to weakness that drains our faith. It took time for the Apostles to grow in faith and confidence in Jesus, so it will with us.

I saw a couple of quotes on the internet about faith:
FAITH is trusting in God
even when you don't understand his plan!

where there is
HOPE, there is
FAITH, and where there is faith
MIRACLES happen

Have a great weekend. God bless

And when couples marry and make a commitment to each other, God is in that covenant and so even if they don’t have children or if they adopt a child or a sibling group or take in relative children - God remains. God is present in each relationship we have - so between single parent and child, between friends, with co-workers - God is there. Even when the other person is not a believer. Pray that he blesses all of us abundantly as we love one another.
