Friday December 6th, Feast of Saint Nicholas and 1st Friday

On that day the deaf shall hear … the blind shall see

I wear hearing aides. Believe me my bride, Anna, will remind when I forget to wear them. It is amazing how damage to the sense or hearing or sight can can effect you emotional and physical well being. The loss of each hearing or sight happens slowly under normal circumstances. The loss of these two senses can cripple us in ways we do not realize. We miss out on life and are excluded from the world around us.

You will find you repeating yourself by asking what the person just said or will respond in a illogical way to something that is said. Damage to sight can happen as you arm tries to get longer or that signs become blurry .

This readings today tell us that it is time during this advent season for an adjustment to our souls and our relationship to Jesus. It does not matter if you are young or old the time is now.

In the words of Isaiah ,But a very little while, and Lebanon shall be changed into an orchard, and the orchard be regarded as a forest! On that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book; And out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see.

Last Sunday on the first day of Advent our choir and associate pastor had a series of music and scripture readings to start the season off correctly. It was wonderful and as someone pointed out the scriptures and hymns coincided with each other. It was a great way to start Advent.

We have time for an adjustment but don’t be caught short. There might be 4 Sundays but Advent is only 3 and a half weeks this year. No pressure, we only have 18 days left.

The time to hear and see what God has in store for us is today. We have much to prepare between now and Christmas. Don’t for get Jesus’s place in your hearts.

Today is also the feast of Saint Nicholas and a good portion of the world celebrates the life and selfless giving of this holy man. Traditions in many parts of the world as you know are to give gifts and family celebrations. To all who celebrate today, may Jesus bless your gatherings.

God Bless you Always
